General Manger Dale Tallon said he is never satisfied, but he is happy with his team’s first half.
“Fifty points at the halfway point is a good position,’’ he said. “Our coaching staff has done a remarkable job with 13 new faces and a lot of injuries. Our guys have come up from the minors and helped us with seven forwards out of the lineup through most of this. It looks like we’re going to get healthy in the next couple weeks.”

On Tuesday, the Panthers announced Markstrom would undergo minor knee surgery Wednesday in Miami. Coach Kevin Dineen all but confirmed Markstrom injured his meniscus. Scott Clemmensen had similar surgery – also done by Dr. John Uribe in Miami – during training camp. Clemmensen missed about a month.

Hírek a sérültekről:
Markstrom:
Goalie Jacob Markstrom is scheduled to have his injured knee examined by local surgeon Dr. John Uribe in Miami on Tuesday after suffering what Dineen now says is a potentially substantial knee injury during Saturday's practice.
With Markstrom out, Brian Foster was recalled for the second time in a week. Unlike last week, where Foster was summoned just for practice, he suited up for his first NHL game but did not play. Florida is also without starter Jose Theodore, although he could start practicing soon.
Markstrom had his 2010-11 season cut short in the minors when he needed knee surgery in February.
“Unfortunately it's not great news but we'll know more [Tuesday],'' Dineen said after the game. “It's going to be a little while before he's back in the swing of things.''
Upshall:
Scottie Upshall joined his teammates for the morning skate Monday and then was off to Philadelphia to be seen by noted sports hernia Dr. William Meyers. Upshall, who has been out since Nov. 10, says he feels good and hopes to be cleared by Meyers.
Sturm:
Marco Sturm is out with a concussion and hasn't skated since being hurt Dec. 20.

“It feels awesome, actually,'' said Mikael Samuelsson, traded to the Panthers from Vancouver in October. “I'm not taking anything away from our win, but I don't think they played their best game of the year. But I absolutely don't care about that. We won. I'm happy. I'll take it any day.''

Leigazoltuk Madden-t:
Florida Panthers Executive Vice President & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with C John Madden.
“John is a veteran player who brings to our team a wealth of playing experience having won two Stanley Cups with New Jersey and one with Chicago,” said Tallon. “He is a hard working and responsible forward who plays well at both ends of the ice and is excellent on face-offs.
Madden, 38, a three-time Stanley Cup Champion (2010, 2003 & 2000) has appeared in 867 National Hockey League games with New Jersey (1998-2009), Chicago (2009-10) and Minnesota (2010-11), registering 345 points (162-183-345) and 215 PIM. He appeared in the postseason for 10 consecutive NHL seasons (1999-2010), playing in 134 playoff contests with New Jersey and Chicago, scoring 21 goals with 22 assists.
The Barrie, Ontario native has won 50.9% of the face-offs he has taken throughout his 12-year playing career. Madden won the Frank J. Selke award in 2001, given to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game. Prior to turning pro, Madden played four years of college hockey at the University of Michigan (1993-97), earning a national championship with the Wolverines in 1996.

Theodore megsérült, jön Markstrom:
At the 4:41 mark of the second period, goalie Jose Theodore was forced to leave after getting run over by Montreal's Mike Blunden and teammate Dmitry Kulikov. Although Theodore was hit in the head and shoulder after being hit, it appears he suffered a knee or leg injury as he fell awkwardly.
Dineen said Theodore would be out for some time and Jacob Markstrom would be recalled from AHL San Antonio.

Panthers winger Tomas Kopecky was not suspended for punching New York's Mike Del Zotto in the final seconds of Friday's loss. Both Kopecky and Del Zotto were fined the league maximum $2,500. Del Zotto engaged Kopecky with a high stick to the head near the goal crease.

Az idény meglepetései közt a második helyre rakták a Csapatot!
2. Florida Panthers: In 19 months, general manager Dale Tallon has transformed the Panthers. And he's done it with what was thought to be second-tier players. Who ever thought Steven Weiss, Tomas Fleischmann and Kris Versteeg could be one of the NHL's most potent offensive lines? Many thought goaltender Jose Theodore was finished, but he's put up fine numbers. And Brian Campbell, the rearguard Chicago didn't want, is running a nifty power play on which fellow point man Jason Garrison has emerged from nowhere as a top shooter. They've also done it with a first-year coach, Kevin Dineen.

First off, free agent center John Madden is in South Florida and spent part of the day talking with the team – including coach Kevin Dineen – and being checked out medically. Ran into Dale Tallon and Bill Torrey at lunch, with Tallon telling me nothing has happened yet. The Panthers are talking to Madden as well as some other unnamed players. He said they will likely bring in someone by Monday.

2 éves szerződés Weavernek!
Florida Panthers Executive Vice President & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has agreed to a two-year contract extension with D Mike Weaver.
“Mike is a high-character, hard-working defenseman who we are glad to have re-signed,” said Tallon. “He is a responsible player, who has proven to play an integral role on our penalty kill. We look forward to his continued contributions to our organization.”
Weaver, 33, has played in 119 games with Florida since being signed as a free agent on Aug. 3, 2010, scoring two goals with 20 assists and 40 PIM. He currently ranks second on the club in blocked shots (62) and sixth on the team in ice time (19:44). Weaver was one of only four Panthers players to appear in all 82 games with the Panthers last season, while finishing first on the team in blocked shots (132).

Érdeklődünk John Madden után:
The Panthers could get some help soon as the Christmas roster freeze is lifted on Wednesday. Florida is said to have interest in free agent center John Madden – a three-time Stanley Cup champion with New Jersey (two) and Chicago. Madden, 38, scored 12 goals for the Wild last season and has been working out in Minnesota waiting for a call. “We're talking to everyone and we're listening to everyone,'' general manager Dale Tallon said during Tuesday's game. “We really need some bodies. We're trying to get better and will do so anyway we can.''

Huberdeau, who led the Panthers with three goals during the preseason, had a goal and four assists in the win.

A good number of players who will likely star for the Panthers in the coming years will be on display starting Monday in the World Junior Hockey Championships being held in Alberta.
Florida has five players competing for the United States and Canada alone. All five of those players – led by Canada's Jonathan Huberdeau and Quinton Howden as well as center Nick Bjugstad of Team USA – could be on the Panthers roster within the next two seasons.
The Panthers have a total of seven top prospects competing in the 10 day tournament. Erik Gudbranson would have played for Canada as well, only he's played in 27 games with the Panthers.
One player the Panthers have extreme interest in watching is Bjugstad, a sophomore at the University of Minnesota. Florida took the 6-4 center with the 19th overall pick in 2010 and are expecting him to become a top two line player for the Panthers in the next couple of seasons.
“These are the best kids in North America,'' Tallon said. “We have a bright future and a good core. Our fans should be excited about what's coming. You talk and talk about your prospects but until you see them in action, fans don't know. But they should be excited to know the kind of players we have.''
